The thought of planning for a disaster can be overwhelming. Where should I start? What should I pack? Should we stay or should we go. These are questions just a few of the most common questions when it comes to planning for the worst. Emergency preparedness should be thought of as another form of home insurance. You buy insurance with the hopes that will never have to use it.
While the internet is filled with useless (but entertaining) nonsense, the net also offers nuggets of great content on nearly every topic including emergency preparedness. I have compiled a comprehensive list of survival planning videos for your review.

Active Shooter Survival Videos
What is an active shooter event?
The technical definition of an active shooter is a situation in which:
- A shooter’s activity is immediately causing death or serious bodily injury
- The activity is not contained
- There is an immediate risk of death or serious injury to potential victims
The United States has witnessed several recent mass shooting attacks or active shooter events, one in Aurora Colorado which claimed 12 lives and left 58 injured, and the second at the Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newton Connecticut which claimed a total of 28 lives. Surviving a mass shooting attack can come down to having a mental plan already in place should the unthinkable go down your work or school.
It doesn’t matter what side of the gun debate you fall on, what does matter is you watch these videos just in case you fall on the wrong side of an active shooter’s gun.

Earthquake Survival Videos
Gone are the days when one could rest at ease, comfortable with the thought that an earthquake can only happen in southern California. According a United States Geological Survey (USGS) 2008 report, there are several areas across the continental United States that could experience a major earthquake. The USGS identified those areas as:
- Charleston South Carolina
- The Pacific Northwest including Northern California, Oregon, and WashingtonState
- The Midwestern section of the United States due to the possibility of a major quake along the New Madrid fault line
- Utah due to the possibility of a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on or near the Wasatch fault
The following videos provide information necessary to form and implement an earthquake survival plan for you and your family.

Flooding caused by other reasons is responsible for millions of dollars of damage every year in this country.
Check out the following videos and use them to come up with a plan to survive a flood. While you’re at it, check your homeowner’s policy to learn if you’re covered in the event of a flood. If not, now is the time to pick up flood insurance.

Hurricane Survival Videos
Hurricanes, also known as Cyclones or Typhoons are one of nature’s largest and most destructive weather events. Throughout history, these dangerous storms have killed many with their destructive winds, flooding rains, or deadly tornadoes. Fortunately, a hurricane is a slow-moving disaster that can be seen coming for days giving you plenty of time to plan for its arrival. That plan could be how to shelter in place or get out of these monster storm paths.
The following videos are excellent tools that will help you decide which option is best for you and your family.

Zombie Apocalypse Survival Video
What is the zombie apocalypse?
The zombie apocalypse is the brainchild of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Zombies are used in the place of everyday disasters to educate and entertain at the same time. Is the Zombie Apocalypse a Waste of Money? Personally, I say no. Anything that gets people thinking about covering their own backsides is a plus in my opinion.
Substitute zombies for Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes, Tornadoes Civil Unrest and you get the point. If you’re ready for an overwhelming event such as a Zombie attack, you’re ready for anything.
20. Zombie Apocalypse: Presented by sootch00 who in my opinion has some of the best prep videos online today. This presentation details
21. Zombies Hate Preppers: “Self-reliance, rugged individualism, independent thinking made America great.” These traits will also save your butt in the event of a zombie apocalypse or anything nature or man can toss at us.
